Day 1: Hoi An – Hue

Pick-up at your hotel, depart for Hue. Visit the Citadel, containing the Imperial City, the Forbidden Purple city and the Emperor’s private residence. Have lunch. Check in hotel.

In the afternoon, visit Thien Mu pagoda, considered by many as the unofficial symbol of Hue. It is active Buddhist monastery with its origins dating back to 1601. One of its most poignant displays is a car belonging to a former monk, who in 1963, drove to Saigon and set himself alight to protest against the South Vietnamese regime and its cruel treatment of Buddhist monks and followers. From here we embark on a lovely boat cruise on Perfume River to visit Minh Mang tomb, in a tranquil setting of gardens and lakes. End the afternoon with a visit to the vibrant Dong Ba riverside market. Back to hotel.

 

Day 2: Hue – Quang Tri

Depart for Quang Tri province. Along the way, stop at battle sites to visit the La Vang church, the Quang Tri Citadel, Ben Hai river, Hien Luong bridge and the Seventeenth parallel – the former borderline between North and South Vietnam during the war. In the afternoon, visit the Vinh Moc tunnels where North Vietnamese guerilla fighters lived and fought. Continue driving to Dong Hoi, check in at your hotel and then relax. Overnight in Dong Hoi.

Day 3: Dong Hoi – Phong Nha Cave – Hue

Breakfast, drive to Phong Nha cave – a World Heritage site recognized by UNESCO in 2003. Upon arrival, take a boat trip along the river to a complex of caves. After a short hiking up the ‘300 steps’, you will explore caves with hundreds of glistening stalactites and stalagmites in various shapes and sizes. Continue sailing down the river and into a limestone mountain cave. Inside the cave, you can leave the boat and walk through the stalactites and stalagmites. Return to Hue or Hoi An.
